Enrollment for the 2017-2018 School Year

Now Open

Woodbury Leadership Academy is now accepting applications for the 2017-2018 school year.  The open enrollment period will end  at 4:00 PM on January 31, 2017.  All applications received within this open enrollment period will be equally considered.  If we receive more applications than spaces available for any grade level, we will conduct a lottery to determine admission.  Applicants not chosen in the lottery will be placed on a waiting list and notified if a space becomes available.

We will be having an information night for perspective families on Monday, January 9th at 6:00 - 7:00 pm at Woodbury Leadership Academy.  School tours take place every Monday at 10:00 AM and Thursday at 4:15 PM.  To register for a tour, please contact the school's Executive Director, Bert Strassburg at:  bstrassburg@wlamn.org.

Applications received after the open enrollment period will be admitted if openings remain or added to the waiting list.  Priority will be based on the order the applications are received.

Thank you for supporting the students of WLA!  By participating in Give to the Max Day we raised $3,095!  This money will go directly towards a new playground for our new school (in either 2017-2018 or 2018-2019)!  We appreciate your support!

Our Mission

The mission of WLA is to utilize leadership based programs and strategies grounded in solid research, combined with the demonstrated success of Core Knowledge curriculum as the bases of a rigorous overall educational program that builds strong skills in math, reading, literature, writing, music, science and technology.

Our Vision

The vision of WLA is to be a sustainable, public charter school where students and graduate become exceptional leaders, and are prepared to take on the academic and leadership challenges they will face as they transition into high school.

What is a Charter School?

In the early 1990s, a small group of educators and policymakers came together to develop the charter school model on the premise of parental choice, achievement, and innovation. Minnesota’s legislature passed the first charter law in 1991, and the first charter school opened in 1992.

In Minnesota, charter schools are tuition free independent public schools that are open to and welcome all students, no matter ability or need, and are governed and operated jointly by licensed teachers, parents and community members.
